The Use of Powerline Networking Technology in Broadband Networking was first introduced by Bell in 1997. At that time there were not any of these devices available on the market. The use of such a technology involves the conversion of one telephone network into a different telephone network, in this case a home network. It is a cost effective solution for many businesses and homes, which make it especially popular. The use of this technology is called Local Area Networking (LANNet).
Powerline Networking Technology
The first explanation which explains the use of powerline networking technology is explained right away. A personal device connects to a current home LAN with an already existing telephone line and an existing outlet. Such devices are commonly called VoIP devices. A VoIP system consists of three components, including the server, the converter, and the phone.
The second explanation, which can explain the use of powerline networking devices is about the physical cabling. A converter consists of a transformer, which is installed between the user’s computer and the phone or amplifier. As the name implies, a converged network refers to one unit which uses one physical cable for connecting all of its components. The lines that connect the two Powerlines in the right side of the picture are called coaxial cables while the lines that connect the left side of the picture are called digital subscriber lines (Dsl). The purpose of the Dsl lines is to transfer the high bandwidth connection which is necessary between the computer and the telephone to the television.

In fact, both the types of systems have their own advantages and disadvantages. The coaxial cable is the cheapest among the two connection options. The next alternative, which is available is the LAN which stands for Local Area Network.
